Air handling units or AHU’s are an important component in larger air conditioning systems as found in multi-level buildings, schools, offices and many others.
Their objective is most often to mix new and old air as well as changing its temperature through either heating or cooling before distributing via ducts around the building. AHUs come in either vertical or horizontal configurations depending on the space available. The components include a fan, room to mix the air, a coil that cools the air plus a heating device.
AHU’s are often associated with chillers. The chiller chills water to a lower temperature before being pumped to the AHU. The cooled water coils in the AHU are then subject to the fan’s airflow which cools the air. The now warmed water is then sent back to the water tower and chiller or an air chiller system for cooling again. This is how heat is removed from the atmosphere within the building.
Tecair is the national factory trained installation and service agent for Dunham & Bush. DB manufacture AHU’s in sizes from 1,700 to 21,000 cubic metres per hour.
