Changes to NSW Water cooling tower laws
From January 1st 2018 NSW has new water cooling tower laws. Water tower coolers need to be tested monthly. Tecair has already been in contact with our clients affected. Additional changes are flagged throughout 2018 also.
Regulatory changes to the management of water-cooling systems
An amendment to the Public Health Regulation 2012 was published on 1 December, with the new requirements to commence on 1 January 2018. Under this amendment the occupier of premises that contain a water-cooling system must ensure that:
- All water-cooling systems undergo monthly testing for Legionella count and heterotrophic colony count
- Reportable test results of Legionella count 000 cfu/mL and heterotrophic colony count 5,000,000 cfu/mL are notified to the local government authority for that area.
- The first monthly test must be completed before 1 February 2018.
Additional amendments are expected to commence in early 2018.
